Tunza Book Review: Tore and the Town on Thin Ice

12-9-08 Tore and the Town on Thin Ice

By Carole Douglis
Illustrated by Adrienne Kennaway

This story takes place in Greenland.  Tore is the main character.  Tore is an eskimo from the Inuit tribe.  The story is about Tore helping the ice not to melt.

The ice is melting because of global warming.  Tore gets into a sledding accident and he fell through the thin ice to the freezing water.  After the terrible accident he has a dream about Sedena, the mother of the sea.  She tells him he needs to help the arctic animals.  The ice is melting because the Earth is heating up.  The animals are loosing food.  So Sedena says we should use less oil and gasoline.  Tore wins the next race and decides to use  the prize money to buy solar panels and windmills.  The book ends by telling us what to do to save the earth, like planting trees, using less electricity and recycling.

You can buy it at Amazon or we can bring a copy back for you -- let me know!
